Malikan Hardy Waterlily – Award Winning Deep Pink Blooms

The Malikan Hardy Waterlily is an extraordinary new perennial cultivar that has quickly gained recognition for its rich, deep-pink blooms and remarkably high petal count. On average, Malikan produces 200 petals per flower, making it one of the fullest and most spectacular hardy waterlilies available. Unlike many high-petal count varieties, Malikan is also a prolific bloomer, rewarding water gardeners with flower after flower all summer long.

This dazzling hardy water lily was hybridized by our friend Potjanee of Thailand, who continues to bring the world some of the most impressive waterlily introductions. Malikan performs equally well in both northern and southern climates, making it a perfect choice for ponds across the USA.

Malikan Hardy Waterlily Proper Planting and Care

  • Container Size: Plant Malikan in a wide, shallow container at least 15 inches across, or directly into the shallows of an earth-bottom pond.

  • Soil: Use only heavy garden loam (not bagged mixes, compost, or aquatic gravel). If you don’t have access to good topsoil, we recommend PondGro Aquatic Loam Soil.

  • Depth: Place Malikan Hardy Waterlily so that the crown is 6–18 inches below the surface of the water.

  • Sunlight Needs: A minimum of 6+ hours of strong, direct sun is required for consistent blooming.

  • Dividing: Divide annually in spring or summer when the rhizome reaches the container’s edge to maintain strong flowering.

Malikan Hardy Waterlily Fertilizing Schedule

  • Fertilize on the 1st and 15th of each month throughout the growing season (April–September).

  • Use 4–6 Waterlily World Fertilizer Tablets, inserted 3–4 inches deep around the rhizome.

  • Regular feeding is essential for maintaining Malikan’s impressive flower count and size.

Do’s and Don’ts for Malikan Hardy Waterlily

✅ Do:

  • Plant in full, direct sun for maximum flower production.

  • Use wide, shallow containers or plant directly into pond shallows.

  • Fertilize consistently for vigorous growth and bloom.

  • Divide rhizomes annually to prevent overcrowding.

❌ Don’t:

  • Do not use bagged compost soil, aquatic planting media, pea gravel, or stones — these lead to rot or poor growth.

  • Do not allow Malikan Hardy Waterlily to dry out upon arrival; pot and submerge immediately.

  • Do not overcrowd waterlilies or allow floating plants to block sunlight. Each Malikan needs open surface space for pads and crown exposure to bloom properly.
