Plant Description

Umbrella Palm (Cyperus alternifolius) sppis a delightful, green plant with grassy 'umbrellas at the top of the slender, grass-like foliage. When grown in containers and placed in your pond, Umbrella Palm adds a touch of the tropics to your water garden. Umbrella Palm may also be grown in moist soil in containers and placed on your deck or patio. Umbrella Palm can be overwintered indoors in a south facing window.

Moisture Requirements  Moist soil or a couple of inches of water above the soil

Planting Instructions

Plant your Umbrella Palm in moist, loam soil using a large container. Place the container in the pond with an inch or two of water over the top of the pot. You may overwinter your Umbrella Palm indoors in front of a sunny window. You may divide your Umbrella Palm by simply removing the Umbrella Palm from the container and cutting the root ball in half. You may then plant each section of the root balls in separate containers. Grows beautifully in the north as an annual or overwintered indoors. Hardy to zone 7
