Watercress is an edible plant, either by the dark, leafy greens or by edible sprouts. Watercress is also considered a perennial herb. Watercress is considered one of the healthiest, green leafy vegetable on the planet. It is an aquatic or semi-aquatic plant that grows in shallow water or moist soil. Watercress may grow 6 to 15 inches tall and produces small, green and white flowers. Once the plant produces flowers, the leaf becomes bitter. Watercress is great for softening the look of your creek, streambeds, and pond edges from 'that pile of rocks' look! Watercress is a rapidly growing pond plant, grows well in full-part sun with shallow water at the roots.
Water cress when planted in loam soil should be hardy in zones 6 to 11 or sometimes even further north.
Plant Watercress in loamy soil, in shallow water (2 - 4 inches of water over the roots) in full sun to part shade. You may add a few fertilizer tabs each month to keep your aquatic plants looking healthy and green! Keeps plants blooming too! We recommend Waterlily World Fertilizer Tabs + Humates.
